{Friday Mixing Bowl} Books, books & more books!

Imitation is the highest form of flattery, so...thanks goes to author Laurie Tomlinson and her weekly Friday Mixing Bowl posts.

< < I'M CURRENTLY >>

In disbelief that...
Not one, not two but three of my favorite authors and most anticipated reads came out all in the same week. The two contemporaries were quickly devoured as you'll have read in my gushing reviews, and Roseanna's The Reluctant Duchess is my current read and oh my word. Just wait until you read this powerful story.
That I am driving and had a fantastic writing date out of the house by myself, complete with skinny caramel macchiato.
Working on...
A Rose Long Awaited, Amongst the Roses' sequel. This has involved copious amounts of tea after my morning coffee all this week that has served a dual purpose in fighting this nasty head cold.

Biding my time until...

My good friend and heartwarming author Joanne Bischof's The Lady and the Lionheart releases in August. August! At that point though I'll be recovering from my left hip replacement so that novel will be a huge bright spot in my days.

Listening to...
Same old Spotify playlist for my novel--buuut I recently added a few tunes that I can't. stop. listening. to! (Pictured above) A song of note would be Burning House by Cam. This is a plaintive, poignant story woven between music and lyrics that so fit where my heroine, Margaret Bryant, is at this moment in my story--not to mention the melody is hauntingly beautiful.

Looking at...
My binder full of historical facts and figures and mini inspiration "boards"/pages for not only A Rose Long Awaited but for the rest of the series.

And this. My first official meme for Amongst the Roses. However the Lord wills for these books of my heart to end up in my hands bound and printed someday, this is one small piece of evidence of how much love and support I have and will always have in amazing friends. My dear, talented friend Melinda made me this. And I promptly started to cry.

  • Need Graphic Design Services? || Like my roses? Melinda is now offering a variety of graphic design packages and deals and you can find all of them here. She is a dear, and does beautiful work (as evidenced above)
  • The Magic Triangle: Exploring Wounds for Deeper Fiction || Over at the ACFW blog this week, Connilyn Cossette, author of Counted with the Stars explores a unique angle into creating richer fiction in exploring characters backstories and past wounds to enrich how they react as the plot unfolds.
  • A quick sweet snack fix that literally takes less than ten minutes start to finish. Mug cakes, ya'll. I pinned a few of them recently, but Wednesday night's mug of choice to accompany my writing was this delectable Pumpkin Pie in a Mug. So great--I forgot to snap a picture of it.
  • Building a Genuine Platform || Author Emilie Hendryx shared on the ACFW recently on the importance of being real, being creative and dilligent as we seek to expand our platforms and audiences. No big secrets to garnering a huge following beyond common sense, transparency and patience.
